Completed at the Peaks of Otter Lodge along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, this is an example of a plein air (outside on location) painting. In September, the cattails are at their prime, and provided a subject for me to include in this scene.
I learned later that while I was painting, several restaurant patrons watched from the second-floor windows overlooking the lake. To my delight and surprise, they stopped by, chatted with me, and asked for my business card. That's one of the benefits of working on location!
