About the Artist

A Native of South Dakota Inspired by Travel
Landscapes and Architecture
Nancy Rae Brown, an oil painter of landscapes, also delights in creating with colored pencil. Nancy's representational, sometimes impressionistic oil paintings are often done with palette knife for texture. Architectural portraits are her colored pencil specialty, carefully detailed for commissions.
Her passion for landscapes, inspired by traveling, culminated in a Best in Show award in the League of Roanoke Artist (LRA) 25th Annual Showcase of Art, held in Virginia. She shows her work in LRA galleries, and ArtVisions Gallery & Studios in Burnt Chimney, VA. One of her landscapes is part of Carilion Clinic's permanent collection in Roanoke, VA.
Nancy was born, raised and attended business college in South Dakota. Art and traveling began at an early age, first to Portland, Oregon, and then continued while raising a family in a small town near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Yearly trips with artist friends to the Outer Banks of Virginia delivered longed-for art opportunities. A twenty-year sojourn in New Jersey provided many art adventures in nearby New York City. An international trip with artists to Giverny, France, was highlighted by days of painting in Monet's garden.
Retiring to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, finally provided time for a growing art business, ArtWork Elysium. In recent years she traveled with Studio School Roanoke artists to France, Scotland, Sark and Italy. Life changes prompted a move to North Carolina, near Wilmington.
