My inspiration was the table on the patio the internationally known Grounds for Sculpture near Princeton, New Jersey. The blue glassware and placemats initially caught my attention, and then I spotted the bridge, a replica of a famous Japanese bridge in Giverny, France. This view struck me with vivid memories because many years earlier, I walked with an artist friend over that bridge and painted in Monet's garden in Giverny. What memories! Later, back in my studio, while painting two women crossing the bridge, my thoughts must have been on my dear friend, who had passed away. When I stood back to check my composition, I was astonished to see her in my painting.
